Vow from Hiroshima - Producers

On February 10, 2023, we had the greatest opportunity to watch the documentary film, “The Vow from Hiroshima.” (Check out the Vow from Hiroshima article for more info!) After the empowering movie, Ms. Susan Strickler and Ms. Mitchie Takeuchi, the producers of the film, left some time to ask questions about the film. As teens with a goal to spread awareness of nuclear weapons and their harm, we understood how important it is to take the knowledgeable advice of these producers. The two questions we asked were: “What are effective ways to promote teens to watch this movie?” and “How can we further spread awareness to younger generations about disarmament?” To inform younger generations about disarmament and nonproliferation, we wanted to know other options for how to educate our peers and community. Ms. Strickler and Ms. Takeuchi kindly suggested increasing the locations where we could access this movie. Ms. Strickler stated, “We made films to educate the world about the horror of nuclear weapons. It’s important to increase access to stories and documentaries like this to spread awareness.” Ms. Takeuchi added, “People don’t realize the potential threat of living with nuclear weapons. Educating the people around us allows the message to get out there.” The words of both producers provided valuable advice and truly inspired us on how to spread awareness. We hope that one day, we can screen “The Vow from Hiroshima” in our school and our community.
